WWE Raw 1,000 Video: Why CM Punk Attacking the Rock Was the Right Move

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

On the historic episode 1,000 of WWE Monday Night Raw we saw many entertaining things, but one thing at the end of the show took everyone by surprise.

After Big Show had caused the main event to end in a DQ decision we saw The Rock come out and defend his one-time rival as he delivered several punches to Big Show followed by a Spinebuster.

As he went for the People's Elbow we witnessed CM Punk come out of nowhere and knock the Great One head over heels with a clothesline.

Punk followed up with a GTS, which left much of the crowd booing the WWE Champion. As Punk walked up the ramp there seemed to be little to no emotion on his face.

A show everyone thought would just be an excuse to parade a bunch of yesterday's superstars turned into one of the more interesting endings to an episode we have seen in a long time.

CM Punk could end up somehow explaining his actions and not turning heel, but the smart money bet is on a heel turn.

CM Punk has been a great baby-face champion for WWE over the past several months, but a heel CM Punk will be a better contribution to the show.

WWE's main-event scene is low on heels right now with Cena, Orton, Sheamus, Mysterio and possibly Jericho all being good guys.

CM Punk will bring some much-needed fire to what was becoming too much of a positive product.

Daniel Bryan, Big Show and Alberto Del Rio were really the only high-level heels, with Dolph Ziggler beginning to joining them after winning the Money in the Bank match.

Adding Punk to that list will make things get taken up a notch. When a guy with the talent Punk has decides to fight dirty, it makes him that much more believable as someone who can beat the biggest and best in the company.

When Punk ran the straight-edge society he was doing some of his best promo work because he was the bad guy, something he greatly excels at in a day when every heel seems to want to talk slow and wear a suit.

If a full heel turn is indeed what we are witnessing then WWE is making the right move. His pipebombs will have so much more explosiveness if he is able to say really insulting things to people.

We will almost certainly find out more next week on Raw, but in the meantime it is likely that we will see how fans react on the ever-growing list of social media platforms WWE utilizes.

What did you think of CM Punk attacking Rocky, and do you think a heel turn is the right move for Punk?
