NBA Rumors: Orlando Magic Cannot Wait Any Longer to Move Dwight Howard

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

I defy anyone to name one positive contribution that Dwight Howard has made to the NBA this offseason, or the entire season for that matter. The man is a cancer, and very few players are worth enduring that sort of torture to keep.

Howard isn't one of those players. It doesn't matter how many All-Star teams he makes, or how many Defensive Player of the Year trophies he takes home. Howard is more trouble than he's worth at this point. I realize that he is the best player at the NBA's most premium position, but Orlando needs to make sure he's that guy for someone else.

This needs to happen tomorrow. It really should have happened yesterday, but the laws of nature tell us that that's impossible. According to FOX Sports reporter Sam Amico, it doesn't look like it's going to happen tomorrow either.

I'll make things easier on you here. Amico's embedded link finishes his report, but it's what you would expect. Cleveland, Los Angeles and Orlando are all weighing their options. They are seeing what else is out there.

I can't blame the Lakers or Cleveland. Their hands are not tied in this situation, but what could Rob Hennigan and the Magic brass possibly be waiting on at this point? We've seen a multitude of proposals come through the Magic's door. None of them have been up to par.

That's fine. The Magic are demanding a high price for their prized possession, but I have news for them. Their insatiable demands are not going to be met. It's not going to happen. If it wasn't obvious before, it should be now.

The Lakers are the only team in the league with a player close to Howard's value. According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, the Magic wouldn't be on the receiving end of Bynum, but he's the only player whose value allows a trade like this to happen.

This saga has reached the point of ridiculousness. I realize that Anderson Varejao may not excite Orlando's front office, but does another second of being tied to Howard's immature issues sound more appealing? I find it very hard to believe that it does.

Hennigan needs to move Howard now. Don't wait another second. He's held the Orlando organization, and everyone else, hostage for entirely too long.

Orlando is facing rebuilding either way. They've already seen the best possible return packages in this massive sweepstakes. Their best, and only, option is moving Howard as soon as possible.

Do it now before he makes a bigger mockery of himself (if that's possible) and the Magic franchise.
