Viral Video of the Day: Manchester United Greeted Like Rockstars in Shanghai
Sure, they're 48 years too late, they're missing a couple thousand screaming and crying girls and it's the wrong continent. But, other than that, it's just like the British Invasion all over again.
Manchester United players, coaches, officials and staff arrived in Shanghai on Sunday ahead of the club's preseason tour of Asia. The reception was nothing short of rockstar-ish.
Fans squealed in delight. Lightbulbs flashed. The local media weighed in with breathless coverage at the airport. In short, it was a spectacle—and a football-style mini-British Invasion.

In fact, all that was missing was Ed Sullivan's slicked-back 'do and a barely audible version of "All My Loving."
All the hoopla is part of the build-up to United's match against Shanghai Shenhua on Wednesday at Shanghai Stadium. As you probably recall, Shanghai Shenhua's roster features a couple of United's old rivals in Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba. Should be a rip-roaring good time.
After that, it's off to Norway to face Valerenga at the Ullevaal Stadium on Aug. 5. United will then take on Barcelona at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Aug. 11.
Finally, the preseason tour wraps up on Aug. 11 in Germany with a match against Hannover 96. Sir Alex Ferguson and his team will then turn their attention to wrestling the English Premier League title away from the noisy neighbors at Manchester City.
No matter how that quest goes, one thing is clear about Manchester United.
This season, Fergie and the Red Devils are champions in the hearts of Shanghai's footie fans.
Anyone else think we'll see Manchester City there next summer?
