MLB Trade Rumors: Oakland Athletics Interested in Chase Headley
Chase Headley has been one of the most popular names in the rumor mill, and according to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Oakland Athletics have joined the hunt for the San Diego Padres third baseman.
The Oakland Athletics are in the middle of a miraculous July, and they are definitely in the race for a playoff spot. They are currently a half-game behind the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for one of the wild-card positions.
However, even with all of this incredible success so far, the Oakland Athletics simply need more offense if they are going to be a legitimate contender. The currently team has a .228 average.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Their great fortune right now won't be able to hold up without more offense. Their pitching staff is very strong, but you can only win so many games without scoring runs. Every pitching staff has bad days.
Of course, that is where Headley fits in.
He is currently hitting .268 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Even though those numbers aren't incredible, he put them up while playing in San Diego, which is notorious for deadening production.
The Oakland Athletics have not been in this position for quite a few years, so it definitely makes sense to try to add some type of offensive help.
Brandon Inge has provided some home run power at the hot corner, but Chase Headley would definitely provide an upgrade that is sorely needed.
