Olympic Opening Ceremony 2012: American Stars Who'll March for the First Time

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

American female gymnast Gabby Douglas will make her first trip to the Olympics this summer. She will experience the tradition and excitement of the Opening Ceremonies in London for the first time along with some other notable superstars.

Although there are countless Americans making their first appearance at the Opening Ceremonies in 2012, there are only a handful of superstar talents making their first march with Team USA.

Without further ado, here are five American superstars who will march for the first time in the Olympic Opening Ceremonies this July.

John Isner

The 27-year-old American tennis pro will make his first trip to the Olympics this summer. He is the highest-ranked American in the game on the men's side.

The world No. 11 has struggled at Wimbledon in the past, but the Olympics provide him with another opportunity to prove himself as one of the sport's top stars.

It will certainly be difficult for fans watching at home to miss Isner, after all, he's 6'9".

Jordyn Wieber

Jordyn Wieber just turned 17, but that won't stop her from marching at the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies in London.

Wieber, a world-champion gymnast, heads to England as the favorite to take gold in the women's all-around competition.

Wieber is the most natural gymnast representing the United States in London at this year's Games.

One of Team USA's smallest and youngest stars will likely be shining the brightest at the Opening Ceremonies this summer.

Anthony Davis

An All-American, Player of the Year and national champion, Anthony Davis is only missing one thing: Olympic gold.

The 19-year-old hoops phenom will make his first appearance at the Olympic Opening Ceremonies this summer, walking alongside NBA superstars LeBron James and Kobe Bryant while representing the red, white and blue.

Although this is Davis' first opening-night rodeo, it will certainly not be his last.

Alex Morgan

American soccer star Alex Morgan will make her first Olympic appearance at this July's Opening Ceremonies in London.

The 23-year-old forward burst onto the scene at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, scoring goals and making a name for herself as one of the best young players in the sport.

Morgan's striking looks and brilliant play on the field has made her one of Team USA's most notable athletes.

The youngest player for the Americans at last year's World Cup will be their their biggest star marching in the ceremonies.

Gabby Douglas

If anyone can upset Jordyn Wieber in London this summer, it's Gabby Douglas.

The talented 16-year-old female gymnast stands slightly under five-feet tall, but has a huge heart and zero fear when it comes to competition.

The camera is sure to find the first-time Olympian while she makes her Opening Ceremonies march with Team USA this summer.
