Olympic Opening Ceremony 2012: Wish List for British Music Performers
The opening ceremony of the London Olympics will take place on Friday, July 27, 2012.
The ceremony is always quite a spectacle, and the following performers should definitely be in it this year. These performers were not only picked for their prowess on the microphone, but for their ability to entertain beyond it.
Here are some of the best British acts, as well as some up-and-coming stars, who should be included.
Adele
1 of 6It would be tough to not put in the queen bee of British music today.
Adele has arguably the best female voice in the world. Hearing her sing the British national anthem at the Olympics would not just be amazing for the Brits, but for her fans worldwide.
Her powerful voice would make her an excellent addition to the opening ceremony.
JLS
2 of 6It's an interesting choice, for sure. However, JLS is one of the best young groups in England today.
The quartet have amazing voices and can bring a popular element to the games that isn't as depressing as Adele's music. JLS could entertain and even use the games as their own springboard for a bigger profile worldwide. The variety that they bring to this list is definitely needed.
The Darkness
3 of 6The Darkness are not as well known around the world as some of the others, but as far as entertaining the crowd is concerned, they would be great to have.
Who doesn't like guitar solos and some hard rock music? The opening ceremony is all about having fun and entertaining the crowd. This group would do just that.
Tinie Tempah
4 of 6Speaking of variety, it would be hard to not include this London rapper at the London games.
The world has become more accepting of rap music, and Tinie Tempah is one of those few that don't rap about drugs or sex all the time.
He would be a welcome addition, especially if he performs his popular track "Written in the Stars," which is all about the struggle he faced while working to make it as a rapper.
Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Elton John
5 of 6When discussing British and British rock music, we cannot forget Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Elton John. As a group, this trio would be able to play some of the most amazing music and create an interesting spectacle for the ceremony.
The best British musicians will always be able to captivate crowds at large events, and an arrangement of Clapton, McCartney and Elton John would be an amazing way to entertain the fans.
David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger
6 of 6If there is anyone who is the epitome of a British musician, it's David Bowie. Rod Stewart can also appeal to all ages. Meanwhile, Mick Jagger would be perhaps the most exciting name involved.
By combining all three of these men into one group, the opening ceremony could be spectacular. It might not be as insanely majestic as 2008, but it will be close.
