Auburn Tigers Football Recruiting: Are the Tigers the Leader for Derrick Green?
Derrick Green out of Richmond, Va., is one of the top running backs in the country and among the best overall prospects in the nation.
He is the No. 1 running back in the country according to Rivals and is ranked No. 12 nationally among all prospects.
Green is the definition of a power back and is a load at 6'0" and 215 pounds.
With his frame and running style, he is a perfect fit to come in and contribute immediately for any college program. He shows great speed, but it is his power that stands out on film.
Green simply runs over defenders, seemingly with ease, and drives with his legs to deliver the contact as opposed to receiving the blow, a trait that will come in handy in the SEC.
Over the weekend, the talented runner made a visit to the Auburn campus along with his mother and stepfather, per Jeffrey Lee at Rivals.
After the visit, he felt very strongly about War Eagle's chances in this recruitment, and it looks very good for Auburn in what will certainly be a lengthy recruitment for this 5-star prospect.
One element working in the Tigers' favor is the developing relationship between Green and a current Auburn commit, 5-star defensive lineman Dee Liner.
In recruiting, it is always a plus when your best commits are among your stronger recruiters, and it seems this is the case with Green having relationships with Dee Liner, Reuben Foster and Carl Lawson.
This will not be the last visit for the 5-star recruit, as he noted that he would take at least two more visits, one for an official and another possibly for the LSU game on September 22nd.
Along with Auburn, he is also considering Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State and Ole Miss, among many others.
Although this recruitment is far from over, with a decision likely coming closer to signing day, you have to like Auburn's chances in this recruiting battle.
