London 2012 Olympics: Men's Football Teams Set to Shock Summer Games
Spain and Brazil are undoubtedly the favorites to take football's gold medal, but by no means are they the only two forces to reckon with in London's Games.
There are several overlooked teams that will challenge the world's best teams, as this year's games will be as enticing as any in Olympics history.
These are the three teams that will undoubtedly compete for top honors at these Summer Games in London.
Mexico
This Mexican side is talented, experienced and is sure to succeed at the Summer Games.
Giovani Dos Santos leads the star-studded attack and currently plays with Tottenham Hotspur in England.
Mexico comes into this tournament winning all five of its matches, one of which was a 2-0 win over Brazil. The victory included an early goal from Dos Santos, which is exactly the firepower this team will need in London.
Expect this team to come out firing in what is an especially light Group B.
Uruguay
In spite of the dominance Brazil has had in South American football, the Charrua are neck-and-neck with the Brazilians as the best team on the continent.
This is a team that comes off of an impressive 2010 World Cup run, one in which they ended up taking fourth place in the tourney. Uruguay followed that with a 2011 Copa America victory which included wins over both Argentina and Paraguay.
What makes this team so effective is its offensive firepower up front. The team boasts a pair of top-notch talents in Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez. Both are two of the most prominent forward in football and will put their best efforts on display in London.
Gabon
First they shocked the field at the CAF U-23 tournament, and now they will do just the same at the Summer Games.
Gabon took the CAF U-23 tournament by defeating a significantly favored Morocco team. Not to mention, this team has won a whopping four of its last six matches.
Defender Remy Ebanega will be an integral part of this team's success. He comes fresh off a goal in 1-0 win over Burkina Faso and had some terrific defensive stops as well.
This is the first time this team will be playing in the Olympics, but there is no question they will come out with force. Expect only the best from this heavily underrated side.
