Great Britain vs. Brazil: Team GB Doesn't Have a Chance to Medal in London

Team GB's soccer team won't be standing on the Olympic podium listening to "God Save the Queen" this August.

Brazil easily dispatched Great Britain 2-0 in its exhibition match on Friday, July 20 at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium. It's clear now that Team GB is woefully unprepared to beat the top teams in the world when the 2012 Olympic Games commence in London.

Brazil got up on Great Britain early in the contest and simply cruised to the finish with many of its stars taking an early exit.

According to BBC.co.uk:

Brazil took an early grip on the contest and at times mesmerised their bewildered opponents with a well-honed willingness to pass and move, constantly seeking space to exploit...there were times when Team GB looked like a group of strangers, particularly in defence.

"

Stuart Pearce's squad simply aren't talented enough and haven't had enough time to work together as a team to compete against the world heavyweights like Brazil, Spain and Germany, among others.

Great Britain isn't even the best team in its own group this summer in London, let alone close to being one of the world's best teams.

Uruguay—the No. 3 team in the FIFA World Rankings—is the team to beat in Group A. Liverpool's Luis Suarez—one of the top forwards in the world—leads Uruguay's attack, and led his team to a win at the 2011 Copa América over the likes of Peru, Argentina and Brazil. 

Suarez's Liverpool mate Sebastian Coates joins him on the potent Uruguay squad, and they will romp Group A when the games begin at the end of July.

Great Britain may have excellent chances in other sports to win gold medals, but it will fall well short of that goal when it comes to the men's soccer competition.
