Tiger Woods: Stellar British Open Start Proves Tiger Will Dominate Again

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

As much as we keep talking about whether Tiger Woods will ever be himself again, all you have to do is look at his sterling play thus far at the 2012 Open Championship to realize that we could be seeing the great reinvention of a legendary player.

Before the 2012 PGA Tour season started, Woods looked completely lost. He was struggling to do anything right, which made it hard to see how he would ever get back into the winner's circle.

Despite the struggles, Woods did appear to be making strides with his game. He finished second at the Honda Classic in March and that event really signaled the turnaround for the former world No. 1.

There have been bumps along the way, but starting with the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the end of March, Woods put everything together. He struggled in the events after that, including the Masters, yet overall he has been the best, most consistent player on tour this year.

After winning the Memorial and AT&T National, Woods was finally back on track. He was the overwhelming favorite coming into the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Anne's.

There is still a long way to go in this particular tournament, yet with everything we have seen from Woods this season and in the first two rounds of the Open, any doubts about his ability to dominate the PGA Tour again should be squashed once and for all.

Should anyone be expecting to see the Tiger Woods circa 2000? Absolutely not. No one on Tour right now will ever be that dominant. It is unfair to Woods at this stage of his career to expect that.

That said, there is no reason that he can't be the most dominant player in the world again. It will be a lesser dominance, but still really, really good.

Woods looks healthy and happy on the course and, more importantly, looks like he is having fun on the course.

It is going to be an interesting weekend in England, with Woods right in the middle of everything happening.
