2012 Summer Olympics: Girl Power Abounds, Spice Girls to Close out London Games
There were an entire handful of people who decried the lack of Spice Girls songs being used in the opening ceremony. Now, their wishes have been granted in the form of a closing ceremony doused in Girl Power.
Apparently, what you all want, what you really, really want will take place after a boatload of gold, silver and bronze is handed out.
The London Daily Mail (h/t NBC Sports) reports that some famous women will be getting the band back together just long enough to play us out for the summer.
No good story is without its obligatory stick in the mud, though. It seems that Victoria Beckham was the lone Spice Girl to initially dismiss a grand reunion at the closing ceremony.
After major goading and incessant calls, Becks is back, and isn't that just the best news you have heard all year?
The report reminds us of the initial snub of a Spice Girls song not being featured among the 86 tracks to play in the opening ceremony. Melanie Chisholm sounds off, via the London Daily Mail:
"I don’t know exactly where this list has come from, and obviously sometimes things come out that aren’t quite right.
But I’d be really upset if the Spice Girls weren’t included in the Olympics, whether it be the opening or closing ceremonies or any other playlists, because I think we absolutely represented Britain in the 90s.
We literally flew the flag - and Geri even wore it - around the globe.
"
A great injustice is settled.
The world would have been left with a very satisfying meal in the Summer Games, but we all would have felt something was missing.
A London event without Girl Power would be like In the Army Now without David Alan Grier or the Beatles without Ringo.
The report issues that "Wannabe" will be among the two songs the ladies sing, making this the best news since I didn't fall out of bed this morning.
