London 2012 Olympics: Ranking Most Underrated Events of Olympic Games

If you are like most people then you probably are already going to watch the five most exciting events of the Summer Games, and while that is a good thing, chances are you are missing out on watching some of the coolest sporting events of the year. 

Some of these events are so great you probably didn't even know they existed and for that reason we are giving you a countdown of the 5 most underrated events of the Olympic Games. 

Table Tennis

Here in the U.S. table tennis seems silly—after all, ping pong is a game not a sport. Right? 

Au contraire, table tennis isn't just a miniature version of court tennis.  It is an intense sport played by some of the most talented athletes in the world.

BMX

A recent addition to the Olympic games, BMX is looking to establish itself as one of the more popular sports in the Olympics. 

Despite the fact that it is highly underrated, fast and intense races make this sport one of the most must-see events this summer.

Boxing

Professional boxing is hugely popular throughout the world, but unfortunately because the Olympic Committee doesn't allow pros to compete in this event, many dismiss the amateur boxing competitions that take place in the Olympics. 

Don't be fooled, these athletes may not be raking in the big bucks, but these amateurs are tomorrow's great pro stars. Call it scouting if you will. 

Archery

Admit it. Archery was a sport you always wanted to try out as a little kid. 

Your dreams of being the next Robin Hood may not have come to fruition, but now you can watch the best in the world duke it as they compete for the center target. 

Modern Pentathlon

Imagine a sport where athletes run a 3km cross country race, jump over obstacles on horseback, shoot air pistols, swim a 200m race, and hit each other with swords. 

Sound too cool to be real? 

Actually this is the premise of the modern pentathlon.  A sport so great that it sounds like the premise to a young adult novel. 

Seriously underrated, the modern pentathlon comes in at No.1 in this list of the most underrated Olympic events.
