Lolo Jones: Olympic Medal Would Make Star out of 3-Time NCAA Champion
Lolo Jones has won three NCAA titles as a hurdler and two gold medals at the World Championships. But she has never won an Olympic medal, and doing so would make her a household name.
She has everything else required to dwell in the portion of our brains where we store our Olympic athletes. She is very easy on the eyes, has a beautiful smile and a great personality.
In addition to those qualities, she also has an interesting story.
She recently revealed that she is still a virgin at the age of 29. She maintains her virginity for religious reasons. Jones is a devout Christian and she will abstain from sex until she is married.
She discussed that with Mary Carillo on an episode of Real Sports, which can be seen below.
This belief makes her stand out, and it gives her character. Tim Tebow's popularity has as much to do with his faith and religious beliefs as it does his success on the football field.
In turn, his fame has afforded him so many opportunities that a more run-of-the-mill athlete wouldn't have. I don't at all doubt Tebow's sincerity in his faith, but it makes him different and thus interesting.
Jones could have that same appeal, but the prerequisite is having achieved on a major stage. Tebow has the opportunity to perform on such a stage every weekend. Jones' major stage comes around every four years.
If she achieves the elusive Olympic medal, or even the pinnacle, a gold medal, she will become one of the most interesting story lines of the Summer Olympics.
Here's to hoping she captures that level of success.
