We Miss You Michael Jordan

Alex GobleMar 11, 2008

Dear Michael Jordan,

As the NBA season comes to a close, true fans can't help but to remember way the game of basketball was like when you played.

We miss the way you played every game as if it were your last. In today's game, there are more than just a few players that are only in it for the money, and could care less about the outcome of a single game.

We miss how you treated the game as a business and not just a school pick up game. While it is true that a few veteran players wear suits to games, many players have chosen to come to games dressed as if they just got back from the world's craziest slumber party.

We miss that you never wanted to see the eyes of defeat in your teammates. This one is for the Denver fans. The Nuggets are still looking for a true leader, but no one will step up to the challenge. There was never any question who was the leader on your championship Chicago Bulls teams.

We miss being able to trust you with our children and valuables. Back then, you were as genuine as you were talented. You would have signed every last autograph, if there hadn't been over a hundred people asking for one everywhere you went. Today's players are too "focused" on themselves and they just don't care.

We miss how you showed pride in your country. You were a huge part of the "Dream Team" that won the gold medal. The team that we put together now is lucky to win as many games as they lose. They don't want to hurt themselves and lose that big contract extension, so they simply mail it in to avoid the possibility of injury.

Most of all, we miss you. There will never be another player quite like you. No one will ever be able to match the "it" factor that you seemed to have. Just seeing you on TV was enough to get people on the edge of their seats and excited. In cities that had horrible teams, like Denver, people rushed to buy tickets just so they could watch you tear apart their home team. LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have come close to this feat, but will never be as big of an attraction as you were.

Here's to you MJ, for all you have done for this league. Past and present.

We'll just act like that whole Washington Wizards thing never happened!

Thanks

 Fans of the NBA
