Barcelona Transfer News: Daniel Agger Would Be Perfect Pickup for Blaugrana
Barcelona is arguably the world's most talented club football team, but that doesn't mean they're going to stand pat on the transfer market.
According to Paul Doyle of The Guardian, Barcelona has turned their attention to Danish defender Daniel Agger:
"Barcelona, meanwhile, are refusing to meet Athletic Bilbao's valuation of Javi Martínez, so will turn their attentions instead to Daniel Agger of Liverpool, who will use the funds from that transfer to buy Javi Martínez from Athletic Bilbao. Regurgitating tittle-tattle is the Mill's forte, confused readers, not arithmetic.

Depth along the back of your formation is never a bad thing to have. Agger would bring that and more to the Blaugrana.
Agger's English Premier League experience would come in handy in La Liga. He's used to playing against upper-echelon attackers, and he has 170 EPL appearances to his credit. Add in 49 appearances with Denmark's national team, and you have yourself an experienced veteran on the pitch.
Barcelona would benefit from Agger's physical presence (6'2'', 180 pounds) and his leadership skills. Denmark may not be the strongest national squad in the world, but he's captained their group for a reason. He's a smart competitor, and he leads by example.
Agger isn't going to make gobs of highlight-reel plays, but he's a very capable player. He's a strong tackler, and he's a dangerous scorer from his defensive position (eight goals in 170 games with Liverpool). Also, his left-footed strike will give a keeper fits if he isn't paying attention.
As The Guardian's report mentions, Agger is a backup plan with talks for Javi Martinez falling through, but he shouldn't be looked down upon. He's more than capable of handling himself in the defensive zone.
Agger would be a perfect addition to Barcelona's ultra-talented lineup.
