Most Important Player to Watch: Kevin Durant
KD has come off the bench in both of Team USA’s exhibition matches thus far this summer. It remains to be seen if coach Mike Krzyzewski can afford to keep him there, as he is one of the most transcendent scorers of this generation and also plays more sound defense than the starter at SF, Carmelo Anthony.
The OKC Thunder superstar put up 24 points and 10 rebounds off the bench against the Dominican Republic and chipped in 11 points and 3 boards against Brazil as the sixth man.
He outclassed ‘Melo in both of these matchups and has made a case to be the starter by the time the actual Olympic Games begin.
Key Matchup: Luol Deng vs. Carmelo Anthony
Deng is by far the best player on Team GB and will be instrumental in any chance the squad has to even keep this exhibition game close.
When the Brits have the ball, the Chicago Bulls star has got a favorable matchup against the defensively lackadaisical ‘Melo.
However, it’s going to be tough for Deng—a great defender—to help lock down all the extremely athletic and talented scorers that the Americans have at the swingman position.
Prediction: USA 102 – GB 70
