Oregon Football: Phil Knight Shows Ducks Love with $68 Million Dollar Facility

Joe PenkalaJul 17, 2012

Phil Knight sure loves Oregon Football. If you are a fan of Oregon football, this is a great thing; if you are not a fan then this will likely drive you through the roof.

While construction has already begun, blueprints have recently surfaced of the new facility that Knight is paying for on the Oregon campus. The $68 million dollar building is scheduled to be 130,000 square feet and is being completely paid for by Knight.

On one hand, Duck fans are use to such lavish gifts from Knight as the alumnus has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the school, but on the other hand, Knight has made the Ducks the envy of the nation when it comes to donor gifts.

The unique part about this facility is some of the amenities that are being reported. Inside of this facility, it will house the following: two sky bridge-linked, black metal and glass buildings on top of an underground parking lot, a 2,285-square-foot players lounge, a 150-seat dining hall, 124 climate controlled lockers with ipod docks, two movie theaters, a war room modeled after the White House war room, an Oregon football museum, and lastly showers with customized Oregon green shampoo holders.

While it all seems extremely over the top, the most lavish item on the list was a plan to have a private hot tub for Kelly that is inside of a waterproofed video room. After the list was initial announced, it included this in the plans but since then the University has come out and announced that it is no longer in the works. Tough break fro the head man.

The building is scheduled to open at the start of the 2013 season and will set a new bar for teams across the nation when it comes to facilities that can be shown to potential recruits.
