Jordyn Wieber: Projecting USA Star's Marketability Following 2012 Olympics
Gymnastics star Jordyn Wieber is one of the most talented American athletes participating in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, and a successful performance in her events could help her become a marketing star.
We have seen women's gymnastics stars often become some of the most popular American athletes during and after Olympic competition.
Stars from the 2008 games in Beijing, such as Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson, were very marketable athletes following their Olympic performances.
Each of them did television commercials following the Beijing games. Johnson has done a commercial for Bounty, and Liukin has done a commercial for Subway.
Johnson won three silver medals and a gold medal in Beijing, while Liukin won a gold medal, three silvers and a bronze.
Wieber could certainly win medals as well, and is expected to be the gold medal winner in the individual all-around event. She could also place in the team all-around event with her fellow American gymnasts. Wieber won the gold medal in both of those events at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. The vault is another one of her best events.
If Wieber fulfills her potential and lives up to expectations, she will be very marketable for Olympic sponsors or any other company.
Since she's only 17 years old, she could possibly take part in the 2016 Summer Olympic games too, which would make her an even more marketable athlete.
Winning multiple medals in London, including at least one gold, would make Wieber a marketable athlete for several years.
My final projection before the gymnastics events get underway is that Wieber wins multiple gold medals in a fantastic Olympic performance, and becomes a star in American sports.
