Toronto Blue Jays Place Jose Bautista on 15-Day DL, Recall Anthony Gose

Craig AmosJun 7, 2018

If the Toronto Blue Jays' disabled list was a physical place it would be getting pretty crowded these days.

That's because Jose Bautista just joined the party, becoming the latest victim to make the trip.

During Monday night's game against the New York Yankees, Bautista fouled off a 2-0 pitch before clutching his wrist next to home plate. He then exited the game and was spelled by Ben Francisco, who proceeded to work the count for a base on balls.

While initial concerns centered around a possible broken bone, X-rays on Bautista's wrist were negative, and according to the Toronto Blue Jays team website, the slugger has been diagnosed with "left wrist inflammation."

The silver lining here is that there is no structural damage, but the bright side is not so easy to locate when you have to look over a wasteland of sidelined pitchers to see it.

The Jays team website also reports that Toronto has "purchased the contract of outfielder Anthony Gose from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Bautista's spot on the roster."

Gose, ranked by MLB.com as the organization's No. 2 prospect, is hitting .293 this year for the Las Vegas 51s. He has also managed 29 stolen bases in 2012.

Gose is said to possess plus-speed, terrific defensive instincts and a howitzer for an arm.

It shouldn't be long before he sees some action at The Show, given that the Jays currently have just 12 position players on their 25-man roster (including Gose) and only four outfielders.

The Jays will play game two of a three-game set Tuesday night in New York.
