Texas A&M Football: Twitter Reaction and Analysis from SEC Media Days

Nick de la TorreJun 7, 2018

Welcome Aggies.

Today you will get your first taste of just how crazy people are about SEC football.

Over 1,000 media credentials were handed out and you will hear questions that would even make TMZ blush. This is in fact the same venue where Tim Tebow was asked if he was a virgin and Nick Saban compared agents to pimps.

So sit back, relax and follow us here for all your breaking Aggie news in their inaugural SEC Media Days appearance. Here we will cover Twitter reactions along with Kevin Sumlin and his players interviews throughout the day.

Kevin Sumlin Talks at SEC Media Days

New head coach Kevin Sumlin was the first coach interviewed today and he expressed the university's excitement in joining the SEC. Sumlin looked comfortable on the stage while answering every question honestly and he even drew a few laughs. (Via Laken Litman)

Sumlin doesn't look like a small school coach who has bitten off more than he can chew. He is handling the slew of reporters with confidence and is avoiding creating any bulletin board material.

Sumlin acknowledged that it will take time to build the kind of roster needed to be successful week in and week out in the SEC. (Via Saturday Down South)

"We don't have 340lb linemen like a bunch of the teams in this league. It doesn't mean we won't have them down the road." -Kevin Sumlin

#Aggies OLB Sean Porter: "We don't want anyone marking us as a win right now. We're not training to be a bottom-level team in the SEC."

— Mark Schlabach (@Mark_Schlabach) July 17, 2012"

Porter went on to say that the team is planning on jumping right into the SEC and contend right away.(Via Mark Schlabach)

"

More from #Aggies OLB Sean Porter: "We're not coming into this conference and trying to make this a warmup year."

The Senior linebacker has been outspoken and he hasn't even been to the podium yet. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the day.

Ryan Swope, WR

The Aggies leading receiver in 2011, Ryan Swope, made the trip with his head coach and brought some good news about injured running back, Christine Michael. (Via Mark Schlabach)

"

#Aggies WR Ryan Swope told me RB Christine Michael is ready to go from torn ACL. "Recovered fastest of any human being I've ever seen." #SEC

Like his head coach, Swope complemented the competition and speed of the SEC. (Via Mark Schlabach)

"

More from #Aggies WR Swope: "The #SEC is very fast football. I feel like it's the best conference in the country. These guys are fast."

— Mark Schlabach (@Mark_Schlabach) July 17, 2012"

Swope will be a key component to Sumlin's pass heavy offensive attack. The Aggies have yet to name a starting quarterback but have a lot of athletic ability at the position and Swope will be a safety net for whichever quarterback wins the battle.

Swope also lamented on the fact that A&M will no longer play Texas on a regular basis and that they got the last laugh in 2011. (Via Laken Litman)

Paul Finebaum Gets SEC Media Days Started Early

4 of 4

Syndicated radio host, Paul Finebaum, took time to appear on ESPN's College Football Live today. He had some pointed remarks about both SEC newcomers.

Texas A&M is making a lot of changes this year, a new quarterback, new coaching staff and new offensive and defensive coaching schemes. That along with adjusting to a new conference, especially one that is widely thought to be the toughest in the nation, could spell trouble for the Aggies. (Via Ross Dellenger)

"

Paul Finebaum on College Football Live about Missouri and Texas A&M joining SEC - "They're just gonna get stomped on."

— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) July 16, 2012"

But that's why we play the games folks.

Kevin Sumlin did a fantastic job at Houston and there is no reason why he cannot have the same success at A&M and in the SEC.
