Manchester United Transfer News: Lucas Moura's Price Should Scare Red Devils

Manchester United may be desperate to make a splash during the summer transfer window, but there has to be a point where Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to draw the line.

Lucas Moura appears to be the object of Ferguson's desire, even though the 19-year-old's price tag keeps going up even if Moura isn't the one demanding the money. 

According to the Daily Mirror, Sao Paulo, Moura's current squad, is looking for £30m for the star winger. But the finances of a possible move are not as cut and dry as all that.

At the moment, Sao Paulo want around £30m — £23.5m for themselves and some £6m for the player under a contract agreement that gives him 20 per cent of any fee. 

But that cut rises to 30 per cent after August 1, and with Sao Paulo president Juvenal Juvencio refusing to reduce the club’s £23.5m share, that would increase the overall deal by £4m.

No one is arguing whether or not Sir Alex can afford the potential £34m price tag; it is just a matter of whether Manchester United will be making a wise investment of resources to improve the club. 

The Red Devils are not in bad shape, coming off a second place finish in the Premier League and tied Manchester City in points (89). They are more than equipped to make a run in the UEFA Champions League, which starts in September. 

Moura would provide a boost for Manchester United, no doubt. He is so fast and skilled with the ball at his feet that you wonder how much better he is going to get when he hits his physical peak in a couple of years. 

But for Manchester United to be forced into investing so much money into Moura, hoping that he will be the one piece that pushes them over the top, is almost too much burden to bear. He has the talent do it, there is just too much politicking going on with the club for the Red Devils to keep pushing it.
