WWE Money in the Bank 2012: Dolph Ziggler's Win Must Be Start of Serious Push

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

If WWE wants Dolph Ziggler to be seen as a top star, his win at Money In the Bank has to be the first step in a path to legitimacy.

There have been so many times this year where WWE started and stopped a push for Ziggler that it looked like he would never become anything more than a mid-card star who occasionally gets in main events because he is such a good wrestler.

Even when Ziggler was wrestling CM Punk or Sheamus for the titles this year, he was never made to look like a star on their level. Considering that they aren't even close to the same level of stardom as John Cena, it did not bode well for Ziggler's future prospects that he was getting destroyed.

Now, with Ziggler carrying a contract that guarantees him a title shot in the next year, WWE has to take advantage of this opportunity. Things did not get off to a great start on Sunday night after Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio, as Ziggler tried to cash in his shot but was knocked out with a brogue kick.

I do find it interesting that last night seemed to be setting up a triple-threat match between Sheamus, Del Rio and Ziggler since the latter already has the briefcase and the title shot in the bank, if you will permit me the pun.

If WWE is going to get anything out of Ziggler as a true top star, now is the time to take advantage of it. The audience is not stupid. When they see someone at a certain level for so long, there comes a point where they will only accept him at that place forever.

Lord Tensai is a perfect recent example of this. WWE had grand designs for him, but the audience knew him as Albert and he was thrust out of the main event scene before a push could really get started.

Ziggler has far more talent and potential than Tensai ever did. He is a charismatic wrestler and talker Ff he is put in a situation to succeed, WWE has to be willing to help him get to where he can go.

Money In the Bank is hopefully going to be the start of big things to come for one of the best performers in the company.
