Aaron Brooks, Von Wafer: Fantasy Pick-Up Alert!
It has been reported that the Houston Rockets' Tracy McGrady will miss the remainder of the season to have microfracture surgery on his left knee.
While this is a total blow to the entire Rockets organization and to the millions of fantasy owners that have McGrady on their roster, there is some positive to come out of the negative.
Players like PG Aaron Brooks and SG Von Wafer will now get the opportunity to play more minutes and (Yes! You know it!) start to increase their fantasy value immensely. These guards have outstanding potential and will now show it during the second half of the NBA season.
Aaron Brooks (PG, HOU)
Brooks has played 30 minutes or more only nine times this season. He has scored in double-figures in eight of the nine games. He is known for his sweet three-point stroke and already has 67 3PTM this season.
He is an outstanding free throw shooter, shooting 88.3 percent from the charity stripe. He is a dynamic fantasy player when averaging consistent starter-type minutes. Brooks is definitely a player to consider picking up if your fantasy team is in need of a solid guard.
Von Wafer (SG, HOU)
During the month of January Wafer was lucky enough to average decent minutes and put up double figures 12 games in a row.
Like Brooks, Wafer is a great shooter and can hit the three ball on command. With T-Mac now sidelined for the rest of the year, Wafer will begin to average starter minutes and possibly start in most games for the Houston Rockets.
His fantasy value will increase dramatically within the next week or two, and continue to rise throughout the season. Wafer is a steal if still available in your fantasy league and should be picked up immediately as he can become a huge second half surprise.
