Biggest Matchups to Watch
Monday, July 16 at 10:30 p.m. ET, Milwaukee vs. New Orleans
In what should be the best game of the week, the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Hornets are fighting for a lot more than a meaningless NBA Summer League win; both teams are trying to set the standard for their team moving forward.
While many eyes have been focused on the Bucks' star rookies like John Henson and Doron Lamb, the biggest focus on the court is Austin Rivers and his transition to the point guard spot for the Hornets.
Shooting guard Eric Gordon’s return and the departure of Jarrett Jack prove Rivers is New Orleans’ PG-in-training, and this summer league experience will be exactly what the young star needs to get acclimated to the NBA.
Tuesday, July 17 at 8 p.m. ET, Portland vs. Houston
As great as the matchup of the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets should be because of the vast array of talented young players on the floor, the rumors surrounding the Rockets and their attempts to trade for Dwight Howard has the roster in limbo.
With that said, this will be Portland’s time to shine.
As great as it is to see three-year veteran Wesley Matthews working well with rookies Will Barton and Meyers Leonard, it is the stellar play of first-round pick Damian Lillard that has fans excited.
With the ability to get his own shot or find an open teammate, the Trail Blazers finally have a viable ball-mover for the first time since Brandon Roy retired. Keep an eye on Lillard all season.
