Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested Saturday afternoon on aggravated assault with a firearm, and now more information about the events surrounding the arrest have come to light.

The Denver Post is revealing more details about the incident and the star’s subsequent arrest:

"

A road rage incident in the South Beach area of Miami Beach, Fla. precipitated the arrest of Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Miami Beach police report…The incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. EDT Saturday on Collins Ave. — which is one block off the famous Ocean Drive strip, alleges Dumervil and his friend Andy Auguste each left Dumervil's Land Rover, approached the occupants in the white Impala ahead of them, and lifted their shirts, each displaying a gun.

"

The Broncos were looking to have an amazing season on the field this year with the addition of Peyton Manning to the offense and the return of the team’s amazing defense.

Whether he is found guilty or not, it will be likely that Dumervil will miss at least a portion of the NFL season due to the possession of a gun.

Denver missed Dumervil’s pass-rushing abilities when he was injured last season, but now the team must try to find the production missing due to his probable suspension.

This is an ugly situation that continues to get uglier by the day.

----------End of Update---------

It's impossible to speculate what led to Dumervil's arrest, but it's disappointing either way.

As the report later mentions, Dumervil led the league in sacks in 2009. He earned a $61.5 million extension in 2010 but missed the entire season due to injury. Last season he only missed two games, but his sack total didn't clear 10.

NFL.com's Dan Hanzus reported on the situation Sunday. He included a statement from the Broncos' organization.

"

Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts. This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.

"

Denver's front office isn't jumping to conclusions right off the bat, but you can bet they will have a close eye on this situation. John Elway and the Denver brass have one of the AFC's most interesting teams, with the addition of Peyton Manning, and they don't want one player to derail that idea.

We will have to wait to see how this one plays out, but the early indications aren't good. Weapon charges are a serious matter no matter how much money a person makes. The Broncos aren't making light of this situation, and the league won't either.

Judgment can't, and won't, be made until the rest of the story unfolds, but these types of things can cast a dark cloud over a player's career regardless of the outcome.

Keep your eyes on the headlines as this puzzle starts coming together.
