David Haye vs. Dereck Chisora: Del Boy's Future in Doubt After Loss to Hayemaker

Mike MoraitisJun 6, 2018

Not only did Dereck Chisora lose to David Haye via a fifth-round knockout, but Del Boy lost the bout in convincing fashion, leaving no doubt that Hayemaker is in a different class.

Del Boy has now lost four of his last five fights with his only win coming against Remigijus Ziausys who currently sports a pitiful record of 21-51-3.

His losses, coming against Vitali Klitschko, Robert Helenius and Tyson Fury at least showed some promise and all went to decision.

However, it seems the 28-year-old has taken another step back with a knockout loss to Haye. It's interesting how Del Boy was able to rise to the occasion against Vitali but not Hayemaker, who recently came out of retirement to take this fight.

As if his previous three losses weren't evidence enough that he doesn't belong amongst the elite in the sport of boxing, namely the heavyweight division, losing so badly by knockout to Haye spells disaster for Chisora's credibility moving forward.

In the sport of boxing, if you aren't moving up you're only moving down. The same applies for Chisora. At this point, Del Boy will have to scratch and claw his way back to the top.

You never want to write off a boxer before age 30, but it isn't looking good in this case.

While Chisora can still make a living in the sport, his hopes of one day becoming a champion and owning a major belt are long gone. Moving forward, Chisora will be a menial fighter who will become a measuring stick for younger fighters making their way up the ranks.

If you want to be the best you've got to beat the best, and Chisora certainly hasn't done that.
