WWE Divas: AJ Is the Best Character of Either Gender in WWE Right Now
There is no better, more compelling or interesting character than AJ on WWE television right now, and that is a testament to the performer, as well as a much-maligned creative team.
Since beginning an on-air romance with Daniel Bryan early in 2012, AJ has become the unquestioned breakout star of World Wrestling Entertainment. Once an afterthought, she stormed onto SmackDown, and through her consistently solid performances, has increased her television time, as well as the attention paid to her by the writing staff behind the scenes.
Fans are paying attention as well. The storyline involving the former NXT competitor and WWE Champion CM Punk and Bryan are the hottest the company has to offer.

The creative team, often criticized for their lack of quality story-telling, deserves credit for creating a character few thought they were capable of. AJ is a character with depth, whose motivations and personality leave the viewer guessing what she will do next and who she will align herself with.
Fans are legitimately intrigued by the developments each week, and that is something the creative team has had difficulties doing over the last few years.
The performance of AJ herself, however, is what fuels the character. A lesser talent would not be able to pull of the quick shifts in emotion demanded of her on a weekly basis. Lesser talents, without the command of their performances like AJ has proven to have in recent months, would melt in the position she finds herself in right now.
Without the performance to back up the material, the entire storyline would be a bust of epic proportions.
The success of the AJ character, hopefully, opens the eyes of the creative team and, more importantly, Vince McMahon. Perhaps that success will convince those in power to focus on giving characters that fans can invest themselves in, rather than trotting out so-and-so to have a wrestling match with little or no reason or backstory for the match to happen.
Whether that happens or not, fans should sit back and enjoy AJ’s exploits every Monday night because once the story comes to its conclusion, who knows when we will see a complex character on WWE TV again.
