MLB's Field of Dreams Game Features Johnny Bench and Other Legends

Why We WatchJun 7, 2018

What would it be like to play against some of the best baseball players of all time?

And to put together a team of your friends to play those greats? In your hometown?

Sounds like a dream, right?

For Tim Wisecup, it was a Field of Dreams that came true!

The 41-year-old chemist from Hilliard, Ohio got to live out that fantasy thanks to the PepsiMax Field of Dreams contest.

The Field of Dreams contest allows baseball fans to pick their all-time team of living baseball legends and, by doing so, they become eligible to win the contest and play those legends. In 2011, 2.5 million people participated in the contest.

Wisecup became one of four semifinalists and then won the contest by collecting the most votes among the final four.

Tim grew up in Southwestern Ohio and was a fan of the Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds of the '70s. His favorite player was Johnny Bench.

One of the reasons he entered the contest was because Bench was one of the choices for catcher.

Tim got to meet Bench for the first time at last year's World Series in St. Louis.

And then, earlier this season, Tim and his team of friends and neighbors got to play the legends team at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.

The legends team included Bench, Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs, Dave Winfield and Reggie Jackson.

Why We Watch got to spend time with Tim during his Field of Dreams weekend to find out what it was like to win the contest and go behind the scenes for his once-in-a-lifetime game against some of the greatest major-league players of all time.
