WWE: When Will Dolph Ziggler's Time Finally Come?

Giulio RomanoJun 7, 2018

In the professional wrestling business, it is very difficult to make it all the way to the top.

Some have tried for years, having met some success. Yet the big one, the WWE championship, still slipped through their fingers.

Names like Curt Hennig, Rick Rude and Arn Anderson were all exceptional and talented performers but never captured that elusive World title. Whether it is because the timing was off or injuries took their toll is debatable. But at one point or another, these names were at their peak and just didn't get there.

Case in point today: Dolph Ziggler

He's good-looking, extremely talented and has a great manager in Vickie Guerrero.

He is also a former World Heavyweight Champion, despite having one of the shortest reigns ever in 2010.

The "Show-Off" held the Intercontinental and United States championships as well. Some of his reigns were pretty long, which is very good and surprising in this day and age.

But despite all that success, he still can't catch a break. There are little signs pointing at an eventual push as we speak, but nothing is certain yet.

Will his time finally come? Honestly, I don't know about this one.

If it was Cody Rhodes analyzed here, then YES! But Dolph Ziggler? God only knows.

Why is that, though?

First and foremost in my mind is his wretched Superstar name. It is just not good.

Dolph Ziggler doesn't sound serious to me. It is a cross between Hollywood star Dolph Lundgren and fictional adult star Dirk Diggler. How in the hell is this supposed to be compared to Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels?

Then, I cannot shake off the comparison between his character and Billy Gunn's "Mr. Ass." It was good in the 90s, but due to his demons, Gunn failed to seize the moment and failed. Trying to rebuild someone into something else will not work. How about being yourself?

Nick Nemeth is Dolph's real name, and that would suit a longtime fan like me way more.

Look at Cody Rhodes or The Miz...great Superstars who use their own names (in a way). It makes them unique.

Dolph Ziggler has the potential. He already showed the world he can speak, and he wrestles like a champion. Now all he has to do is act like one.

Turn "face," leave Vickie and change your name back to what your mother and father gave you. Then—and only then—will you truly be the star you deserve to be.

I really think WWE has a winner here, just like Miz, Rhodes, Bryan, Sheamus and Punk.

To quote HBK, "God-Given, pure, natural talent" like Nick Nemeth, a.k.a. Dolph Ziggler, is not found at your average corner store. It must be taken care of, encouraged and pushed.

All the pieces have to fit together if he is to be a complete success. He is not far, but he's just not there yet.

Patience and focus is the key here. Don't blow it, WWE!
