Barcelona Transfer News: Oriol Romeu Would Be Nice Addition to Barca

At just 20 years of age, Oriol Romeu has plenty of room to grow. Chelsea wouldn't have signed him to a three-year contract in August if the Blues didn't think he was worth it.

Romeu is now saying that he would return to his former club Barcelona if new coach Tito Vilanova gave him a shot to play, according to ESPN.com.

Romeu hasn't received much playing time since coming up with Barcelona, but that's in part due to the circumstances which have surrounded him. On Barcelona in 2010-2011, Romeu was behind Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano on the depth chart. He played in just 16 games for Chelsea in the Premier League last season, but he was just getting acclimated to playing English football.

There is still promise with Romeu, who rose up through the strong La Masia academy. He plays a similar style of football as Busquets in that he is a strong, powerful midfielder with good passing ability. He has also said that he wouldn't mind playing centre-back for Barca if that's where he were needed most.

The terms of Barcelona bringing Romeu back are murky, however. Barcelona says it can take him back for £9.5 million this summer or £13 million in 2013, according to ESPN. Chelsea says Barca has to buy him back.

Romeu appears eager to show Barcelona what he can do after being away from the club for a while. I think it's worth a shot, especially given the ability he's shown, albeit in limited playing time. There's no question in my mind that the youngster would be determined to prove his worth, and he could eventually blossom on a talented team like Barca. He needs to start getting a legitimate chance to show off his skills for an extended period of time.

Oriol Romeu obviously isn't a must-add for Barcelona, but he's shown enough skills to at least get more playing time.
