St. Paul Saints Become Aints as Atheists Take over for One-Night Promotion
The St. Paul Saints' marketing staff isn't stupid—because if you want a lot of attention, this would be how to go about getting it.
SportsGrid makes mention of a report over at the Minnesota Atheists' Meetup group. It states the team will be taken over by the "community for nonbelievers" for one night—Friday, August 10.
They have a picture of what the players may be wearing on this night that will no doubt draw the ire of many religious fans.
Here is what the Minnesota Atheists report about the night's events.
"Our banners will hang in the stadium and we will rename the team the “Mr. Paul Aints.” The team will wear Mr. Paul Aints jerseys during the game, which will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for us. You may also order in advance a custom Mr. Paul Aints jersey with your name and a number on the back for $69...
"
As SportsGrid points out, Minor League teams have had many off-the-wall promotions. A couple of the most recently noted are a night dedicated to Anthony Weiner and a zombie night.
If there is anything this country does really well, it's getting bent out of shape over something very little—and this would classify.
I expect a full-on display of picketing and protest that will make the St. Paul Saints headline news for one summer night.
Well played, marketing team.
I agree with Glenn Davis—writer for Sports Grid—who sees this as more of a "one-night goof." But something tells me this is about to turn into much more than one night of fun and frivolity.
