Jon Jones: 'Anderson Silva Is My Idol, Fighting Him Is a Lose-Lose Situation'

Jon Jones feels he has nothing to gain from fighting Anderson Silva.

In an interview with Fox 11's James Koh, the UFC light heavyweight champion continued to downplay any chances of a super fight with Silva.

After stopping Chael Sonnen for a second time at UFC 148, there really aren't any more big fights left for Silva in the middleweight division.

At the post-fight press conference for the event, UFC President Dana White did not rule out the possibility of a Jones vs. Silva super fight.

As for Jones, his mind is already made up. A bout with Silva isn't in his future. In fact, he sees it as a lose-lose situation:

[Anderson Silva] is kind of like my idol, and fighting your idol, it's not a thrill for me. I don't want to beat Anderson Silva. I don't want to lose to Anderson Silva. It's a lose-lose situation in my opinion.

"

It is interesting Jones doesn't believe he has anything to gain from defeating arguably the greatest fighter in MMA history. Silva has dominated all-comers and broken just about every UFC record there is to break. He's the Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali of the sport.

A win over Silva could be seen as a passing of the torch, and a loss wouldn't be a huge deal for the 24-year-old Jones. There's certainly no shame in losing to an all-time great.

Why wouldn't Jones want to be a part of that?
