Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Andy Carroll Is Expendable in Anfield

Andy Carroll is one of England's best young strikers, but his club future is questionable at this point. Carroll spent last season with Liverpool, but he's currently being courted by other sides.

According to Mirror, Carroll is drawing interest from a fellow English Premier League squad and an elite Serie A club.

The London club have joined the chase to capture the England striker, and believe they have a trump card over AC Milan, who have also expressed their admiration for the Liverpool forward.

Last year Carroll struggled in Anfield for the most part. He scored six goals in 42 appearances, and he failed to get into the groove for the most part.

Carroll's size and strength were supposed to energize the Reds' offense, but it didn't happen. He didn't seem comfortable, and it impacted his play on the field.

He has long-term potential, but he may not fit with Liverpool any longer. Brendan Rodgers prefers possession style football. Carroll's erratic decision making doesn't bode well in a methodical style of attack.

Later in the Mirror's report they mention that Liverpool is close to landing Fabio Borini, and they are in the hunt for Daniel Sturridge. Both players are just as young, and just as talented, as the towering Carroll.

The Reds' offense struggled mightily last season and losing any primary attackers seems like a big deal, but it isn't. Liverpool's other activities overshadow his loss and make him extremely expendable.

Liverpool fans just got done being excited for his arrival. Now they may have to prepare for his departure.

Sometimes that can be rough, but in this situation it will be just fine. Carroll is a fine talent, but he doesn't fit the new direction Rodgers is taking the club in.
