NFL Coaching Jobs Still Avalible

Bryan BrackneyFeb 17, 2009

Just a couple days away from the NFL combine and a few weeks away from free agency, there are still a lot of coaching positions available in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator

The Cowboys fired Brian Stewart after a two-year campaign at defensive coordinator, but the Cowboys might not need to look far to find his replacement. Dave Campo and Todd Grantham are already on their staff and are experienced coaches.

Campo was the Cowboys head coach from 2000-2002. Before that he was the defensive coordinator in Dallas, and after he was the defensive coordinator of the Browns. Campo is currently the Cowboys secondary coach.

Todd Grantham was the defensive coordinator of the Browns from 2005 to 2007.

Another possibility is that the Cowboys do not hire a defensive coordinator, and leave Wade Phillips to carry out those duties.

Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

Chan Gailey had a lot of up and downs in his first season as the Chiefs offensive coordinator. Gailey has not yet been released by new head coach Todd Haley, but he has not been re-signed either. If Gailey is not re-signed, Haley will have a lot of options to choose from.

Maurice Carthon was with Haley in Dallas and Arizona, and has experience at offensive coordinator. Al Saunders and Mike Martz are out there also.

Kansas City Chiefs Coaching Staff

The Chiefs are lucky that Ken Whisenhunt did not retain some of his coaches. Jeff Rutledge was fired and would fit perfectly as the quarterback coach.

Clancy Pendergast would be assistant head coach/defense.
