MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Teams Desperate to Make a Deal
With the trade deadline a mere three weeks away, many teams are looking to improve either their pitching staff or their lineup as July 31st approaches. Some teams may want to begin the rebuilding stage as next season approaches, while others are looking for that one guy that will place them over the edge and take them to the World Series.
The All-Star break will have come and gone by the end of the night, and it will already be time to focus on the second half of the season. Here are 10 teams that will be looking to make a move.
Boston Red Sox
1 of 10The Boston Red Sox were definitely expecting bigger things than to be sitting at a .500 record at the break, and they definitely have a big enough market to improve their roster.
They haven't had much problem scoring runs (second most in the majors), but with a team ERA of 4.22, look for Beantown to deal a few of their bats to strengthen the depth of their bullpen.
Cleveland Indians
2 of 10The Indians needs help on the bump immediately, as their team ERA of 4.50 is the third worst in the big leagues. Due to the considerable slide of the Chicago White Sox, they still only find themselves three games out of the division lead.
If they want to make a serious run at the playoffs, they will need to make a deal to strengthen their rotation.
Los Angeles Dodgers
3 of 10Just over a month ago, the Dodgers had the best record in baseball, but after allowing the San Francisco Giants to get within a half game back in the NL West, they need to make a move to improve their lineup and score some runs.
The Dodgers have only 51 home runs and are only averaging 3.8 runs per game. If they want to have a shot at staying atop the division, they need to make a move to improve the power in their lineup.
Philadelphia Phillies
4 of 10Talk about slumping. The Phillies won just one of their last 10 games before the break, and are really going to need to make some moves if they want any shot at the postseason.
A change of scenery in the locker room could really spark the team into a late second-half rally, and while they are a long way back from the playoff picture as of right now, stranger things have happened.
Houston Astros
5 of 10Time to rebuild! The Astros need to see if they can dump any of their aspects to teams that will be making a run at the playoffs, and try to get some young prospects to put through their system.
I know that giving up Jed Lowrie, who is arguably their best hitter as of right now, would sound crazy, but when you're 20 games below .500 at the break, it's time to cut your losses and try to prepare for the future.
Chicago White Sox
6 of 10While they do have the division lead as it stands right now, the Sox have slumped going into the All-Star break and may need to look into improving their bullpen if they want to see themselves playing ball in October.
They still have the 11th lowest ERA in the bigs, which is quite respectable, but improving their bullpen to compliment how well their starters have pitched could really be a good move.
San Francisco Giants
7 of 10The Giants find themselves just a half game back in the NL West, but are sitting near the bottom of the stock pile when it comes to total offense.
They entered the All-Star break losing 7 of their last 10, and with another bat in the middle of the line-up, they could really give the Dodgers a run for their money and take the division title.
Chicago Cubs
8 of 10Well, it's safe to say that the World Series drought for the Chicago Cubs is not going to end this year, as they find themselves 15 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL Central Division.
The Cubs have many guys on the roster that would interest multiple teams, and hopefully that'll get them some young talent for the future. Guys like Matt Garza and Alfonso Soriano could definitely make an impact on a team making a push for the playoffs.
Washington Nationals
9 of 10I know the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and while that may be the case for the overachieving Nationals, who currently are sitting at a 49-34 record at the break, they could make a few moves to add another bat into the lineup and improve their mark as the 20th best offense in baseball.
The Nationals have never been in a position like this, and should seize the moment in order to give themselves the best chance at making a run toward the pennant.
Pittsburgh Pirates
10 of 10While it is a huge surprise that the Bucs entered the All-Star break with the lead in the NL Central, it is no surprise that they have had struggles at the plate and need to improve their lineup.
The Pirates have more than enough young talent in the minors and in the bullpen that they could exchange for a right-handed bat to compliment Andrew McCutchen.
