Matt Kemp's Gold Hightops: Dodgers Star Flashes Curious Foot Bling

Richard LangfordJul 9, 2012

Matt Kemp is not afraid to make a statement with his clothing. To be fair and honest, I have never taken notice of his fashion taste prior to today, but there is no other conclusion that can be made after seeing this picture of Kemp.

The MLB tweeted out this gem.

Is Kemp moon walking in this picture? Notice the slightly bent right leg with the foot fully on the ground. It would be consistent with that tricky forward-looking, yet backward-moving walk. Still, the real reason for this question is those shoes!

You don't wear shoes like that to just stroll around like a normal person. Foot accessories like those need some kind of special purpose—as illustrated by the ruby red slippers that took Dorothy back to Kansas.

Maybe that is what Kemp is going for. The Dodgers star has played in only 36 games this year due to injury and hasn't played since May 30. Yet, he is still going to participate in the Home Run Derby. This decision has sparked a bit of controversy, and maybe this is Kemp's way of pushing past that.

"There's no place like home...run derby." He just clicks those flashy kicks together and bam! His body is fully ready to launch some dingers.

Then again, maybe Kemp is just toying with a new shoe technology. This design could be incorporated into his playing cleats. The benefits could be amazing. With the proper angle and enough sun, Kemp could blind opposing pitchers, hitters, base coaches or fan bases. He might even be able to distract a Russian from the deck of Sarah Palin's house.

Still, as fun as all of this sounds, here's to hoping this is the only time Kemp decides to wear these "blingtastic" shoes.
