Manchester United Transfer News: Nani Looks Set to Stay at Old Trafford

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

Manchester United winger Nani has confirmed he wants to remain at Old Trafford next season despite rumors emerging that the Portuguese international was being frozen out of the club by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Whilst on national duties at Euro 2012, it was believed that Nani was on the outer of Manchester United and could possibly leave the Red Devils over the summer transfer window, who were yet to offer him a new contract for next season.

However, according to the Times of India via Sky Sports, Nani has hit back at those claims, stating that he is more than happy at United and is currently in negotiations for a new contract at the club.

"

I am very happy at Manchester United and have been there five years and won every title. The manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] has great faith in me and that's what is important. My agent is negotiating [a new contract] and we shall see what happens...

"

The 25-year-old is approaching 200 appearances for the Red Devils after transferring from Sporting Lisbon five years ago for €25 million—netting over 30 goals for the club in that time.

Negotiations for a new contract at Old Trafford are still ongoing, but Nani is confident that a deal can be reached between the two parties and that he will remain a Red Devil next season.

Manchester United transfer target James Rodriguez was believed to be a replacement for Nani at United, but has recently shrugged off any possibility of a move taking place between the two sides, according to O Jogo via Goal.

"

I want to stay with Porto. I am happy and very pleased to be able to continue with the club. I am looking ahead to next season and have a lot of expectations. I will also have more duties and responsibilities next season.

When the news came out about Manchester United, I knew nothing about it. I want to win more titles here...

"

That can only mean good news for Nani, who will already face still competition for a starting position in the United midfield next season.

The Portuguese winger will likely do battle with Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia on the wing, but with the addition of Shinji Kagawa and the return of Tom Cleverly from injury, any position in the midfield will be hard to come by.

Is keeping Nani a good thing for Manchester United?
