Ortiz vs. Griffin: Tito Ortiz Right to Be Upset by Griffin's Post-Fight Antics

Austin GreenJul 8, 2012

I've never been a big Tito Ortiz fan, but Forrest Griffin's actions following their fight at UFC 148 were simply disgraceful.

The two put on a great show in the Octagon, battling for three back-and-forth rounds. It was a fitting bout for what was effectively Ortiz's retirement party. He had just been inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, and it was good to see a competitive matchup for the final fight of his illustrious 15-year career.

Unfortunately, the moment was completely ruined by Griffin, who attempted to steal the spotlight with his blatantly immature actions.

After the final bell, Griffin inexplicably left the Octagon and began running toward the locker room before the judges' decision had even been announced. UFC president Dana White ran him down and forced him back into the Octagon, but he may have been better off just letting him go.

Griffin returned for the reading of the scorecards, and the judges awarded him the unanimous decision victory. But rather than gracefully accepting his victory like the former champion that he is, Griffin continued his childish actions by grabbing the microphone and interviewing Ortiz while Joe Rogan stood by.

Ortiz was clearly upset, but not wanting to add to his own humiliation, he answered Griffin's questions. Afterwards, he called Griffin's actions "bulls--t" and expressed his disappointment. You can watch the reactions of Ortiz, Griffin and White below (warning: video contains some naughty language).

Although Griffin apologized, his antics were unforgivable.

Even if you hate Tito Ortiz, he is a champion and a Hall of Famer, and you have to admit that a man who has meant so much to the sport of MMA deserved a better send-off than he received.

Griffin's behavior was immature and disrespectful, and I hope the UFC makes it clear to him that these sorts of actions are unacceptable.
