Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray Must Not Let Federer Defeat Impact Him Negatively
Andy Murray's defeat to Roger Federer in the men's final at Wimbledon on Sunday has the potential to significantly impact his career in a positive or negative way.
The good news for Murray is that he has the right attitude following the heart-breaking result (per the official Wimbledon Twitter page):
"Murray: "It doesn't get easier when you lose, it's hard, tough to take, but you have to come back stronger." #Wimbledon
— Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 8, 2012"
These kinds of losses, the ones that happen when you are closer to your goal than you had ever been before, can really affect a player mentally.
Murray handled himself like a true professional before, during and after Sunday's final, and he has a lot of spectacular tennis to look forward to.
He's proven once more that he has what it takes to reach a Grand Slam final, and needs to remain confident that he will reach his goal in the near future.
Murray must turn this defeat into a positive moving forward, and make it motivate him to come back stronger and dominate the US Open in New York next month.
It will be a difficult tournament for Murray to win, and he won't have the same support from the crowd in New York that he had in London. However, his experience at this year's Wimbledon should help him become even stronger in all facets of his game.
How he responds to this difficult defeat to Federer will tell us a lot about how the remainder of Murray's career will unfold.
