NHL Trades: One Player That Each NHL Team Needs to Target

Nicholas GossJul 8, 2012

Each NHL team will likely have a list of trade targets who could address the weaknesses on their roster.

To make the move for the one player who will turn a franchise around, the trade market is the place to go. Teams that want to make a Stanley Cup run need to be willing to take risks to achieve their goals.

Let's look at one player each NHL team needs to target in the trade market.

Anaheim Ducks: David Krejci

1 of 30

If the Anaheim Ducks are serious about contending in the Western Conference next year, then finding a second line center is a priority.

Boston's David Krejci would give the Ducks a solid second line center.

Boston Bruins: Bobby Ryan

2 of 30

The Bruins have plenty of depth in their organization to make a move for a top goalscorer. Ducks star Bobby Ryan would be the pure goalscorer that Boston needs for its top-six forward group.

Buffalo Sabres: Patrick Kane

3 of 30

Patrick Kane's maturity concerns became apparent again after the Chicago Blackhawks' season ended, so now is the perfect time for the Sabres to make a deal for the hometown star.

Calgary Flames: Mikhail Grabovski

4 of 30

Mikhail Grabovski would be a tough player to acquire, but the Calgary Flames need a playmaker at center with Olli Jokinen signing in Winnipeg this summer.

Carolina Hurricanes: Ales Hemsky

5 of 30

If the Hurricanes cannot sign Alexander Semin in free agency, then they could fill their need for goalscoring on the wings by trading for Ales Hemsky.

Chicago Blackhawks: Roberto Luongo

6 of 30

If Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo is willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to the Chicago Blackhawks, then they should try to acquire him to fix their issues between the pipes.

Colorado Avalanche: Bobby Ryan

7 of 30

If the Ducks really want a center for Bobby Ryan, then the Colorado Avalanche would be smart to offer center Paul Stastny in exchange for the young winger.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Chris Kreider

8 of 30

The Blue Jackets would be wise to offer Rick Nash to the New York Rangers in a package centered around future star winger Chris Kreider.

Dallas Stars: Zach Bogosian

9 of 30

The Stars have acquired a lot of offense during free agency, but need to upgrade their depth on the blue line to complete their roster for next season.

Detroit Red Wings: Rick Nash

10 of 30

Even though trading Nash within the division would not be ideal for the Blue Jackets, the Red Wings should aggressively pursue the power forward because he is the 40-goal scorer they need now and for the future.

Edmonton Oilers: Keith Yandle

11 of 30

Keith Yandle is a good two-way defenseman whom the Edmonton Oilers would be smart to pursue this summer.

The Phoenix Coyotes need young offensive talent, which is exactly what the Oilers have to offer.

Florida Panthers: Roberto Luongo

12 of 30

Roberto Luongo would be comfortable in Florida because he enjoys living there and has family in the area.

The Panthers should make this trade if they are serious about being a legitimate contender.

Los Angeles Kings: Sam Gagner

13 of 30

The Los Angeles Kings would be wise to look for a young offensive talent like Sam Gagner this summer, and their collection of talented defensemen would be attractive to the Edmonton Oilers.

Minnesota Wild: Paul Martin

14 of 30

The Minnesota Wild will be looking to improve their blue line even more in the coming weeks, and it's hard to imagine the Pittsburgh Penguins declining the opportunity to trade Paul Martin and his $5 million salary cap hit.

Montreal Canadiens: Patrick Sharp

15 of 30

It would be hard to imagine the Chicago Blackhawks trading Patrick Sharp unless the return package benefits them greatly, but his two-way talent is exactly what the Montreal Canadiens need.

Nashville Predators: Bobby Ryan

16 of 30

A proven goalscorer who's under contract for a few years is exactly what the Nashville Predators need to improve as a team.

Bobby Ryan would be a great addition to the Predators' forward group.

New Jersey Devils: Alexander Semin

17 of 30

The only team I won't name a trade target for is the New Jersey Devils because they should sign free-agent winger Alexander Semin to replace some of departed captain Zach Parise's scoring output.

New York Islanders: Niklas Hjalmarsson

18 of 30

It wouldn't surprise me if the Chicago Blackhawks are willing to trade Niklas Hjalmarsson for the right price, and the New York Islanders have a lot of young talent throughout their organization to offer for the veteran defenseman.

New York Rangers: Rick Nash

19 of 30

Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash has been linked to the New York Rangers for months, and he is still the best target for the Blueshirts in the trade market.

Ottawa Senators: Joe Pavelski

20 of 30

The Ottawa Senators would be wise to target a goalscoring winger like Joe Pavelski if the San Jose Sharks decide that Rick Nash isn't worth the price.

The Senators have a lot of young talent whom an aging team like the Sharks would find attractive.

Philadelphia Flyers: Shea Weber

21 of 30

The Philadelphia Flyers should extend an offer sheet or trade for Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber. The Norris Trophy finalist is the perfect target for the Flyers as they re-tool their blue line this summer.

Phoenix Coyotes: Jared Knight, Other Bruins Prospects

22 of 30

If the Coyotes want to trade defenseman Keith Yandle, then the Boston Bruins would be a good trade partner.

Yandle is from the Boston area, and the Bruins have several young, NHL-ready offensive talents such as Jared Knight who would be solid additions to the Coyotes.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Patrick Marleau

23 of 30

After some disappointing playoff runs with the Sharks, veteran winger Patrick Marleau would be wise to move east, join a contender like the Pittsburgh Penguins and start fresh.

Playing with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin would elevate his game.

San Jose Sharks: Rick Nash

24 of 30

Rick Nash is the ideal target for the San Jose Sharks this summer, but giving up Logan Couture would be too high of a price to pay for the Blue Jackets captain.

St. Louis Blues: Jay Bouwmeester

25 of 30

Calgary Flames defenseman Jay Bouwmeester has a large salary cap hit, but that wouldn't be a problem for the St. Louis Blues since they are so far under the cap.

Bouwmeester's offensive abilities would be a great addition to the St. Louis blue line.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Bobby Ryan

26 of 30

One weakness on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster is the lack of a young star on the wings.

Bobby Ryan would be the ideal target for the Lightning if they choose to make a move for more goalscoring before next season.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Roberto Luongo

27 of 30

If the Toronto Maple Leafs want to make the playoffs next year, then goaltender Roberto Luongo is the player they must acquire in the trade market.

Vancouver Canucks: Evander Kane

28 of 30

Evander Kane is from Vancouver and could be the young star the Canucks will need in a few years.

However, acquiring him from the Winnipeg Jets would be very difficult.

Washington Capitals: Ales Hemsky

29 of 30

Edmonton Oilers winger Ales Hemsky would be a good replacement for Washington Capitals free-agent winger Alexander Semin.

Winnipeg Jets: Keith Yandle

30 of 30

Keith Yandle would be a great addition to a Jets blue line that needs another top-four defenseman who can be productive at both ends of the ice.
