Modric Packing for Madrid?
1 of 5Croatian midfielder Luka Modric could be on his way to Real Madrid shortly.
According to a report from Croatian website 24sata.hr (cited by Goal.com), Modric and Real have agreed to terms. The only unresolved issue is Tottenham Hotspur's selling price.
"Sources close to Modric have been quoted as saying: "Everything has been resolved. Luka and Real Madrid agree on everything."
"There is a little more difficulty with the position of Tottenham but everything will be solved and will be resolved quickly."
"
Spurs are reportedly holding out for £40 million.
Real might have competition. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have rekindled their interest in Modric after reportedly having a £40 million offer turned down last summer.
Modric, 26, joined Tottenham from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008.
Vertonghen Leaving Ajax?
2 of 5Heading the opposite direction of Modric, Jan Vertonghen is reportedly close to joining Tottenham.
Vertonghen, a 25-year-old Belgian international defender, is on the verge of a move from Ajax to Spurs (per ESPNSoccernet). Ajax manager Frank de Boer left Vertonghen out of a preseason match because "his head is in London."
According to Sky Sports, De Boer said: "He is only waiting on a few minor details before he gets the green light."
RvP Showdown
3 of 5Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has returned to London from his summer holiday in hopes of sorting out his future, according to the Daily Mail.
Van Persie, 28, stunned Arsenal with a statement last week that indicated he would not sign a new contract. His current deal expires after the 2012-13 season.
Arsenal responded with a statement saying the club expects Van Persie to honor the final year of his contract.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will speak to Van Persie about his statement. Manchester City, Manchester United, Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in Van Persie.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are chasing Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic as a replacement (per Metro).
Flamengo Want Riquelme?
4 of 5Veteran Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme announced last week that he had played his final match for Boca Juniors.
Now Riquelme, 34, is reportedly being chased by Brazilian club Flamengo (per Goal.com).
According to the website, Flamengo director Zinho said the club has not made an offer for Riquelme.
""But it is obvious that Riquelme is a player we are interested in. I would open Flamengo's doors to him."
"
"I have spoken with his agent after seeing the news [that he had quit Boca] and I asked if it was possible to sign him."
Lampard Staying?
5 of 5Midfielder Frank Lampard is not leaving Chelsea for MLS, according to The Sun.
Lampard recently had been linked with a move to the Los Angeles Galaxy, but the tabloid quoted Lampard as saying "there's nothing in that at all."
Lampard, 34, joined Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001.
