Tottenham Transfer News: The Latest on Jan Vertonghen Deal

Even stronger signs emerged today indicating that Jan Vertonghen's move from Ajax to Tottenham will be completed extremely soon.

The 25-year-old Belgian defender has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for the past few months. Vertonghen's transfer, however, has been stuck—a result of his former club not wanting to pay him part of the transfer fee, as per a clause in his contract.

However, Ajax manager Frank de Boer dropped Vertonghen from his squad for a pre-season match, stating that he did so because "his head is in London."

Further, the manager said of his soon-to-be ex-player, "He is only waiting on a few minor details before he gets the green light."

There had been a very strong likelihood that Vertonghen was coming to Spurs, but the snag that his deal had hit threatened to postpone the deal—a situation that may have become an issue in terms of form and team chemistry the closer it got to the start of the season.

Hence, this news should come as a bit of a relief to Tottenham supporters, as Vertonghen's services would surely be a big boost for the squad from the start of the season.

After all, centre-back is a position that could really do with a few new faces, as two of the four players at that position currently under contract are past their prime at best.

Hopefully, the indications of today are a sure sign of things to come and of Spurs getting their new defender as soon as possible.
