Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: 5 Targets Andre Villas-Boas Should Focus on

Mohamed Al-HendyJun 7, 2018

Now that Tottenham finally made their choice on their coach for next season, it's time to provide him with the signings needed to bring Tottenham success.

With many key players looking to leave Tottenham, and the squad lacking depth and talent in key areas, there is much room for improvement in the current Tottenham squad.

Ahead, we profile the top five signings or transfer targets that could really provide Tottenham with a major boost of quality in 2012-13.

Note: Jan Vertonghen's transfer has not been included as reports continue to indicate that he's on the verge of transferring.

Joao Moutinho

AVB has made Moutinho his first major transfer target since being appointed at Tottenham, but he isn't the only one after the Porto superstar.

Manchester United, still looking to improve their midfield options, are also chasing Moutinho, and are believed to have already bid £20 million for his signature.

Will Tottenham be able to compete with the financial might of United, and will the Portuguese bond between AVB and Moutinho be enough to convince Moutinho to move to Tottenham instead of silverware-chasing United?

We'll see, but AVB will surely have completed a major coup if Moutinho ends up at White Hart Lane come August.

Luuk De Jong

Despite his young age, Andre Villas-Boas has never really been a manager who trusts heavily in youngsters, preferring to go with players entering or in their prime.

However, in the case of Luuk de Jong, AVB would be wise to trust the 21-year-old to be the centre-forward the club needs.

De Jong has proven himself to be a strong, capable striker at FC Twente for two seasons now, and is most certainly ready to make the move to a respectable side in one of the world's top four leagues.

At present, Tottenham face competition domestically from Newcastle United, but they are believed to be the biggest club in the running for his signature and are expected to only have to pay £12 million to sign him.

Without Champions League football, it's unlikely that Spurs will be able to lure many top-notch CF to White Hart Lane. That just makes acquiring De Jong an even more intelligent decision for AVB.

Alan Dzagoev

As a Tottenham fan, I cannot emphasize how pleased I would be to see this rumor come to fruition. According to The Independent, Alan Dzagoev could be on the verge of a move to Tottenham for £15 million.

This transfer would be great for Tottenham as it would give them another very respectable play-maker and goal-scorer, a young prospect, and a competitor for Aaron Lennon on the right flank.

So far, Tottenham have been the only major team to declare their interest in Dzagoev, and it would be foolish to pass up such a great opportunity to sign this massive talent.

Jack Butland

Tottenham have been trying to sign a top goalkeeper to replace Brad Friedel for some time now, and Jack Butland could be just the man to replace him.

The Birmingham City stopper was selected for the England squad, putting him on the radar of many clubs, and it is expected that any deal to sign him will cost between £8-£10 million.

It's not known if Tottenham would immediately introduce Butland to the starting lineup or loan him back for a year to give Friedel another season, but Butland's signing would finally give Tottenham a long term solution in a position they've struggled to fill for some time now.

Leandro Damiao

5 of 5

Diego Forlan's move to Internacional has restarted rumors that the Brazilian club may be interested in selling their biggest asset, Leandro Damiao, now that they have ready-made replacement for him.

Damiao is a big, strong Brazilian striker, gifted with decent pace and a good shot, and would be a terrific signing for Spurs. His quality at such a young age (22) also bodes well for his further development as a player.

The biggest problem with Damiao is that it would likely take a massive transfer fee to lure him to England. Spurs have been trying for years to acquire him, but so far all their bids have yet to result in legitimate transfer negotiations.

It's a long shot, but one can dream, and Internacional know that they'll have to let go of Damiao eventually. Here's to hoping that they decide that this summer is the ideal time to do so.
