Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen: 5 Reasons You Can't Miss This Fight

Riley KontekJun 2, 2018

I may not need to tell you, but you cannot miss UFC 148 tonight. Whether it's because Tito Ortiz is retiring by fighting one of his biggest rivals, or because the middleweight championship is on the line, it looks to be the best event of the year.

The biggest rematch in history goes down tonight. Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen hate each other, to put it lightly. They will bring the fight to one another and dazzle fans with their intensity.

Here are five reasons you cannot miss tonight's main event.

Weigh-in Physicality

1 of 5

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Chael and Anderson had quite the interesting weigh-in yesterday. After both men officially weighed-in, the staredown ensued.

Silva got right in Sonnen's grill and showed intensity we haven't seen in some time. At the end, Silva threw a shoulder at Sonnen's jaw, causing a swift breakup by UFC officials and cornermen.

If that isn't a sign of exciting things to come, I don't know what is.

First Meeting Was Amazing

If you didn't see the first fight between Sonnen and Silva, here you go. The UFC allowed everyone to watch it for free, in hopes that it will up pay-per-view buys.

The first fight was surprising, edge-of-your-seat material. Sonnen took the fight to Silva for over twenty minutes. He grounded him, he pounded him, and almost found himself the new champ.

One triangle armbar later and Silva was still champion. His desperation submission paid off, but now the two men meet again.

Sonnen Has Lit a Fire in Silva

It took crossing the line by Sonnen to get Silva to show some physical emotion. Whether it was constantly bashing Brazil, talking of Silva's wife, or constantly calling Silva a wimp, Sonnen has clearly gotten under Silva's skin.

Silva has retracted, going as far as to say that he wants to cause physical, bodily injury to Sonnen. I haven't seen a fired up Silva like this ever. That could play out well for Silva, or take his head completely out of the game.

It's the Biggest Fight of the Year, Maybe the History of the Company

4 of 5

There is no doubt in most people's mind that this is the biggest event of the year and the biggest fight of the year.

But, could this be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC? One could argue that Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell, or UFC 100 were bigger, but UFC 148's potential is through the roof.

I am going to go out on a limb and proclaim that this event will set a pay-per-view sales record for the UFC. This will prove that should Sonnen win, a third fight would not be out of the question.

It's Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva, Why Wouldn't You Watch?

5 of 5

Seriously though, why wouldn't watch? They hate each other, they are the best in the world, and did I mention they hate each other?

Be sure to watch it tonight. You won't regret it.
