Silva vs. Sonnen 2: Why Anderson Silva Did Nothing Wrong at the UFC 148 Weigh-in

Anderson Silva did nothing wrong when he faced off with Chael Sonnen at the UFC 148 weigh-ins. 

To those who think he did do something wrong, relax. He shouldn't be fined; he shouldn't be suspended; he shouldn't be reprimanded in any way.

In case you missed the weigh ins, Silva gave Sonnen a bump/nudge with his shoulder once the pair finally faced off at the conclusion of the ceremonies. Predictably, there was an uproar afterwards, and now some fans are crying foul 

They have no reason to be upset.

Silva didn't do anything that was particularly untoward. Yes, he bumped Sonnen with his shoulder—that's it (here is a video so you can decide for yourself).

UFC president Dana White and company were quickly between both men to prevent the action from being escalated. Sonnen himself was unfazed and unharmed. As the saying goes, no harm, no foul. 

Anyone who looks down their nose at Silva for this "transgression" would do well to remember the brief weigh-in scuffle between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate back in March. Tate got in Rousey's face and Rousey didn't take kindly to it, pushing Tate back with her forehead in angry fashion. 

Fans and pundits weren't clamoring for a fine or incessantly whining then (in fact, only Tate was complaining). Instead, the MMA community was simply commenting about how heated the rivalry was and how Rousey had effectively punked/intimidated Tate.

If only the standards the MMA world applied to attractive women were also applied to muscular Brazilian men...

To anyone who is still upset about the whole ordeal with the shoulder bump, just remember that MMA is the sport of fighting. Come Saturday night, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will be doing far worse things to each other than bumping shoulders.
