Tottenham Hotspur News: Luka Modric Reportedly Agrees to Terms with Real Madrid

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid, with sources close to the Croatian stating that personal terms have been agreed upon between the two parties.

According to Croatian website 24sata.hr (h/t goal.com), Modric has agreed on a four-year deal with the club and an official announcement will likely be made in the next couple of days.

"

"Everything has been resolved satisfactorily. Luka and Madrid agree on everything—the only problem is the position of Tottenham, which has made things a little more difficult. But everything will be resolved and more importantly, it will be resolves quickly..."

The "position" referred to above is the one held by Spurs boss Daniel Levy, who wanted at least £40 million for the Croatian midfielder.

Reported by metro.co.uk, "sources in Spain" reportedly have Real Madrid signing Modric for around £28 million.

However, a figure around £35 million is more likely to be accurate considering that Spurs rejected a £40 million offer from Chelsea last summer.

English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United were also both interested in the 26-year-old, but Tottenham are determined not to sell him to a rival Premier League club—opening the door for Real Madrid to lure the Croatian away from White Hart Lane.

New Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is believed to have accepted the departure of Modric as inevitable, and is already searching for replacements, hence why Levy is determined to receive a substantial figure in return for the midfielder.

With Zeki Fryers and Gylfi Sigurdsson already secured for next season, Villas-Boas is looking to bring in new talent to Tottenham with the money gained from any Modric deal. Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen (news via Daily Mail) and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor (BBC Sport) are also both expected to move to White Hart Lane over the summer transfer window.

No official statement by Real Madrid or Tottenham has been released regarding the Modric situation.
