Wimbledon 2012 Schedule: Women's Finals TV Coverage, Preview and Bracket Guide

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The year 2010 was a long time ago.

That was the last time Serena Williams won a Grand Slam event, which just so happened to be at Wimbledon.

Two years later she will look to notch her 14th career Grand Slam title against Agnieszka Radwanska at the All England Club.

It’s a matchup that pits brute strength and power against finesse and accuracy.

There is a gigantic gap in experience in this match, with the 30-year-old Serena playing in her 17th Grand Slam final and the 23-year-old Radwanska appearing in her first.

Will experience and strength prevail? Or will it be youth and precision?

Here is everything you need to know about the ladies' final at Wimbledon.

Bracket Guide

Here is the complete bracket to get an idea of how the women's side of Wimbledon has played out.

Preview

Serena Williams vs. Agnieszka Radwanska

Williams has dropped a grand total of two sets thus far in her march to the finals, and it seems as if her serve is looking better than ever.

In Serena’s semifinal win over Victoria Azarenka, she smashed home 24 aces, giving her an eye-popping 85 for the duration of the tournament.

Despite her age, Williams’ serve continues to be a deadly weapon and it’s hard to envision Radwanska keeping up. Right now it appears the only person who can stop Williams from winning her fifth career title at Wimbledon is herself.

Nerves are a factor here.

Her first round loss at the French Open remains a fresh wound. Her sporadic start at last year’s US Open finals comes to mind as well. It’s been two years since the 30-year-old has won a Grand Slam event and there is no question she is feeling the pressure.

If Serena isn’t on top of her game mentally, Radwanska can take full advantage.

In three of her last four matches she has six unforced errors, an incredible stat. Her defensive forehand, drop shots and ability to seemingly always know where the ball is heading make her more than capable of picking up the shocking upset in her first ever Grand Slam title.

Her serve is an obvious weakness, and it may ultimately doom her. She is borderline awful on her second serve and has to curb this trend if she plans on winning.

One final note to consider: Radwanska has been battling some sort of cough the last few days, and it was bad enough for her to stop her semifinal postmatch press conference. While it hasn’t affected her on the court, her energy level is certainly going to be a question mark on Saturday.

Prediction

Williams is one match away from her 14th Grand Slam title. She's one win away from becoming the first 30-year-old to a Grand Slam since Martina Navratilova. She is clearly the better player and will only beat herself.

It won’t be easy with the long rallies Radwanska is sure to throw her way, but the power and experience of Serena will ultimately prevail.

Serena wins 6-4, 4-6, 6-3
