Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen: Would a Sonnen Win Create Need for Third Fight?
If Chael Sonnen can avenge his loss to Anderson Silva from their first fight, then there has to be a third bout between these two talented fighters.
You cannot have a series be tied 1-1 and not have a third fight to see who has the real advantage. We have seen in boxing how multiple fights between two fighters, even situations that end up as trilogies, are ultimately good for the sport.
Rivalries are also great for any sport, but especially in one like MMA in which one-on-one rivalries can really better the sport and help its growth.
With a Sonnen victory on Saturday and a possible third match to settle everything, the rivalry between these men would rise to a new level, which would be fantastic for the UFC.
After being defeated in the first fight, Sonnen will certainly start the upcoming bout with a ton of emotion and look to prove he's the better fighter, and that his opponent was lucky to earn a victory in the first meeting.
If Sonnen is able to win the second round of this rivalry, then the UFC must ensure that a third fight is scheduled in the near future.
It would be a great fight in terms of excitement leading up to the bout, people would likely buy it on pay-per-view, and it would make for a thrilling conclusion to a trilogy.
The best case for the UFC on Saturday night is for Sonnen to get revenge and earn a third fight, but I'm sure Silva will have other plans.
