Wimbledon Tennis 2012 Semifinals: Andy Murray's Time to Shine Is Now
Andy Murray's time to overcome the pressure and become the first British player since 1938 to reach the men's final at Wimbledon is now.
Murray will face Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinal on Friday, a stage he has reached the past three years at Wimbledon.
With Rafael Nadal already gone from the tournament, plus the fact that Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic haven't dominated at this year's competition, this could be the best chance to win Wimbledon that Murray will ever get.
Murray is glad to be in the position he's in, but also understands that there's still a lot of work to do.
Per Wimbledon.com:
"But I know how hard it is. Everyone kept telling me I had such a hard draw and how tough it was going to be to get through. You know, I managed to do that. I've beaten some very good players. It's been a good tournament so far.
But I want it to continue. I'd be disappointed, you know, if I lost before the final in any tournament, but I don't just expect to get there. It's a very difficult thing to do. You need to make sure you perform properly.
"
One thing about Murray that has been noticeable in this year's tournament is a real focus and determination in his game.
He doesn't seem to be distracted, and it doesn't look like the pressure of winning Wimbledon for himself and for the United Kingdom is getting to him.
The key for Murray in the semifinal is to just relax and not try too hard. He's better fundamentally than Tsonga, and if Murray wins the first set, he will have a great chance to reach the final against either Djokovic or Federer.
With the crowd cheering for him and a great opportunity to win Wimbledon in front of him, Murray is in a prime position to make history on Friday.
