No. 6 – Serena Williams

Serena opened her Wimbledon run without a problem, defeating Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova and Melinda Czink. She then ran into a tough third-round opponent in Zheng Jie but emerged victorious.

The five-time Wimbledon champion also dropped a set in the fourth round to Yaroslava Shvedova, but rallied for a strong third.

Williams then defeated No.4 seeded Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals and had an epic semifinal battle again Victoria Azarenka.

The Belarusian has been a fierce competitor all season and has been the World No. 1 for much of the year after winning the Australian Open.

The two women went back and forth but eventually the American prevailed, 6-3, 7(8)-6(6) and will be back in the Wimbledon finals.
